Individuals who are accused of crime might not know whether they are facing an infraction, misdemeanor or felony. In Ohio, the categorization of a crime is based on the seriousness of the action, the amount of jail time in the sentence and whether that time is served in county jail or state prison.
An Akron, Ohio, man has been accused of harassing perceived enemies, dispatching prostitutes solicited on the Internet to neighbors' homes and sending sexually explicit images to employees of his court-ordered drug treatment program. The man originally pleaded guilty to 22 felony and misdemeanor counts but later recanted and persuaded the judge to allow the case to proceed in open court. A subsequent grand jury handed two more felony counts and two additional misdemeanors.
Authorities reported that a 26-year-old convicted felon is suspected of robbing an Akron bank after being caught shoplifting jeans and shirts from a mall department store. According to law enforcement, the man admitted to trying to steal the clothing and had been issued a misdemeanor theft summons for those charges.
Ohio police report that they have taken two people into custody for allegedly being involved in a robbery. The incident is said to have occurred near the intersection of Trabue and North Wilson Road in Columbus shortly after 2 a.m. on Oct. 27.
Authorities recently reported that law enforcement officials detained a Switzerland of Ohio School District teacher on multiple charges in connection with sex-related crimes involving minors. According to Monroe County officials, the alleged offenses occurred between Nov. 1, 2013 and Feb. 1, 2014. In early March, law enforcement officials commenced a lengthy investigation into the teacher, ultimately resulting in her recent indictment.
Fathers love their daughters and would do nearly anything for them. However, one doctor was accused of taking his love for his daughter too far. He was recently sentenced after pleading guilty to reduced felony charges in an Ohio courtroom.
It was about 1:15 a.m. on November 16, 2012, when a 19-year-old Ohio woman repeatedly stabbed and cut a woman in her bed with a knife from her own kitchen. Police arrived to find the younger woman still in the house, and she never claimed that she did not kill the woman. About nine months after the woman's death, the victim's husband was faced with felony charges in connection with her death.
Back in Dec. 1984 here in Ohio, a then 14-year-old girl was on her way to school when she went missing. Sometime later, it was discovered that she was raped and murdered. The man accused of her death recently pleaded guilty to felony charges.
In January of this year, an 81-year-old woman was found dead in the basement of her Ohio home. Authorities say that the woman had been stabbed repeatedly. Recently, the deceased woman's grandson was charged with multiple felonies in connection with her death.
In 2008, three men were shot and killed over the course of three months. An Ohio man was arrested and charged with their deaths. Recently, he pleaded guilty to three felony charges of manslaughter. It is presumed that when he is sentenced on June 24, he will receive a prison term of 14 years for all three counts.
