Facing drug charges? Know what to expect

On Behalf of The Goldberg Law Firm | Apr 18, 2019 | Drug Charges |

Drug charges have the potential to change your life, even if you’re not convicted. When those around you think that you’ve been involved with drugs, you may have to face intense scrutiny. It may not be fair, but it’s how the world works.

As someone who faces charges, it’s important that you get the opportunity to defend yourself and your actions. In some cases, of course, it’s best to say nothing at all, especially if the prosecution has very little evidence to use against you.

What should you expect when you face drug charges?

To start with, you should expect to go through an interview with police, but you shouldn’t speak to them without your attorney present. You want to make sure you’re only answering questions that you’re obligated to answer and avoiding saying anything that could hurt your case.

When your attorney gets involved, they’ll find out which charges you’re facing. Additionally, they’ll look into the way in which the police became involved in your case and work out whether or not any of your rights have been violated. They’ll look into the evidence that is allegedly held against you, too, so that it’s easier to know where you stand.

At the end of the day, your attorney is there to protect your best interests and to make sure you’re treated fairly, whether you’re guilty or innocent. Your attorney will take steps to help you protect yourself and reduce or eliminate the charges you face, so the drug charges have as limited an impact on your life as possible.
