A 34-year-old man is facing charges after members of the Portage County Drug Task Force reportedly found almost $100,000 worth of methamphetamine in a backpack in his car.
The man has been under investigation for several months, according to the county sheriff. He is currently in the Portage County Jail, charged with trafficking and possession of meth.
The man was initially arrested on an indictment for larceny. The drug task force called in a K-9 unit from the Streetsboro Police Department, which alerted for narcotics. After a search of the vehicle, the detectives found an undetermined amount of cash and around one kilogram of meth. Detectives believe it had a street value of almost $100,000.
After the man’s arrest, the task force detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence in Streetsboro. Three firearms, drug paraphernalia and more substances believed to be meth were reportedly found.
The task force has presented the case to the United States Attorney’s Office and the county prosecutor’s office for consideration of charges.
When facing drug possession or trafficking charges of any kind, it is important to remember that while you may be arrested or detained, you have the right to remain silent. You also have a right to have an attorney with you when you are questioned. If you say something to police, it is possible that it could be used against you in court. This could include anything said in a general conversation.
An experienced criminal defense attorney can help you plan your defense and advice of what your legal options are when it comes to fighting the charges.
