Investigation at Ohio State University ends with drug charges

Last April, the Ohio State University Police Department and the Franklin County Drug Task Force began investigating drug sales on campus. Their efforts to locate both dealers and suppliers have led to the arrest of 16 people. Drug charges have now been filed against those 16 suspects.

Over the course of the investigation, members of the Franklin County Drug Task Force and the Ohio State University Police Department took part in undercover operations that ended with the purchase of approximately $13,530 in drugs and one assault rifle. The drugs ranged from marijuana to prescription drugs to cocaine. Some of the drugs that were seized weren't even the real thing -- they were counterfeit.

One of the drugs that investigators purchased as ecstasy turned out to be something called "synthetic molly" which is basically bath salts. The investigation is still ongoing and officials have indicated that more arrests are possible. There was no other information regarding the ongoing investigation given at this time.

Anytime there are multiple people involved arrested in connection with the same investigation, things can get complicated for the defense. The possibility of one or more parties testifying on behalf of the prosecution in exchange for something such as immunity or a plea bargain for a lesser sentence is high. For this reason alone it is important for each of the accused to review the both the physical evidence and statements against him or her in connection with the drug charges. In some cases, it may be in the best interest of a client to be the one that agrees to provide the prosecution with evidence and testimony against the other people involved. However, those deals can go quickly, so being prepared as quickly as possible is crucial.
