Individuals who are accused of crime might not know whether they are facing an infraction, misdemeanor or felony. In Ohio, the categorization of a crime is based on the seriousness of the action, the amount of jail time in the sentence and whether that time is served in county jail or state prison.

Back in Dec. 1984 here in Ohio, a then 14-year-old girl was on her way to school when she went missing. Sometime later, it was discovered that she was raped and murdered. The man accused of her death recently pleaded guilty to felony charges.
On April 6, police received information regarding the alleged rape of a woman. According to reports, a man allegedly forced himself on her at a residence whose location is being kept confidential for the time being. At some point, the victim claims the man became violent and used unidentified weapons to threaten her into submission. Authorities eventually took an Ohio man into custody on felony charges of rape in connection with the incident.
Back on Nov. 26, 2013, we first reported about the death of an 18-year-old girl near an Ohio high school ("Ohio teen faces felony charges in death of another teen"). At that time, authorities questioned, arrested and charged a 17-year-old with her death. That teen now faces presenting his criminal defense to the charges in adult court.
A woman claimed to have been sexually assaulted by a man the morning after photos and video of the couple ended up on social media. An Ohio grand jury declined to file felony charges against the man based on the evidence presented to it by police. Ohio State University has said that it will conduct its own investigation into the incident despite the fact that no criminal charges resulted from the incident.
For the family and friends of one Ohio woman, Columbus Day will always be remembered as the day that she was killed. The woman's body was found in a vacant lot, and according to reports, the 30-year-old woman had been stabbed over 60 times. A man that was living in the same home with her has been arrested on felony charges as a result.

The boys have already been charged with kidnapping and rape. Police say friends of the suspects and the suspects themselves have inadvertently assisted investigators by Tweeting, messaging and even posting video about the event. Even though the extensive network of their friends, classmates and others tried to delete potentially incriminating material, nothing ever disappears permanently from the Internet.
