Ohio man faces drug charges after 2-vehicle collision

A 32-year-old Ohio man who was accused of being involved in a collision at a Dayton intersection was taken into custody and charged with drug-related offenses on Aug. 30. According to the report, the collision took place at the Hoover Avenue and North Gettysburg Avenue intersection at approximately 10 a.m.

The authorities stated that the man who was driving a Chevrolet Blazer allegedly failed to stop for a red light and ran into the vehicle that was in front of him. The second driver allegedly told authorities that the accused man appeared as if he was nodding off and had attempted to leave the scene prior to the arrival of police. When he was interviewed, the authorities claimed that he told them that he had used heroin at a friend's house just prior to being involved in the crash.

During a search of the accused man's vehicle, authorities reportedly seized a spoon with a dried residue on it and a syringe. He was taken into custody and was ultimately charged with loitering to engage in illegal drugs and possessing drug abuse instruments. Additionally, he was cited for his involvement in the collision. It was not stated whether or not he remained in police custody at the time the report was released.

When someone is facing drug charges, they could also be facing a potential jail sentence and a conviction on their criminal record. Depending on the circumstances of the case, an accused person may be able to negotiate with the prosecution in order to seek treatment for drug addiction in lieu of a jail sentence. Not only could this reduce the severity of the consequences of a conviction, but successfully finishing a court-ordered program may also result in having the convictions dropped from the accused person's record.
