Ohio man charged with felonies after traffic stop

A man is facing counts of illegal activity for allegedly having explosives in his vehicle. He is being detained in an Ohio jail facility for multiple felonies. He was arrested and charged with illegally creating or having an explosive device after officers pulled him over for a routine traffic stop.

Reports indicate that the man was originally engaged with law enforcement officers after being pulled over for speeding. During the routine traffic stop, the man assured officers that he did not have any weapons on him. An officer came back to the man's vehicle and allegedly noticed the handle of what seemed to be a weapon sitting between his knees. Once the officer observed this, he requested other officers to be dispatched to the scene.

Upon a search of his vehicle, authorities reportedly discovered 48 explosives and two pistols. It was also allegedly discovered that he had two rifles and multiple items used to make more explosives. Moreover, reports further indicate that a remote-controlled detonator was located inside of his vehicle. The man is being held on a $1 million bond.

Having explosives and other dangerous weapons generally puts the safety of others at a high risk. It's understandable that Ohio prosecutors would want to preserve safety of the community and secure a conviction. To obtain a conviction, however, prosecutors will need to meet a stiff burden of proof and possibly a motive. In spite of presumable evidence against the defendant for his felonies, he may contest any allegations brought against him to protect his freedom or lessen his legal risk.
