Search of residence leads to drug charges

On Behalf of | Sep 18, 2014 | Drug Charges, Other Crimes

A woman in Ohio was taken into custody on Sept. 5 after police raided her home in Huntington. A drug task force and the Huntington Police Department’s Special Emphasis Unit reportedly obtained a search warrant before they detained the woman at her residence that afternoon. She faces a charge for possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, and she was held at Western Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond.

Prior to the search, the accused woman was reportedly wanted by authorities because of an outstanding warrant on charges of delivering a controlled substance. The woman had received the charge after police found her to be in possession of alleged contraband that they believed was intended for the use, packaging and delivery of controlled substances.

During the raid, authorities reportedly found the woman’s residence to be unfit for habitation due to unsanitary conditions. The Cabell-Huntington Health Department and Code Enforcement was sent to inspect the home, and occupation of the property was blocked. Authorities from animal control were also on the scene to collect two pit bulls that were found at the residence. The incident was reportedly connected to a broader effort to stop drug trafficking in Huntington called Operation: River to Jail.

A person accused of drug possession after a raid like this might wish to seek help from a criminal defense lawyer. By closely examining police reports of the incident, a lawyer may potentially uncover any discrepancies that occurred during the investigation phase or if officers obtained evidence outside the parameters outlined by a search warrant.
